JA of the Heartland has created career expos to address two community needs: attract and retain a skilled workforce to help strengthen our communities, and provide awareness for career options other than those requiring a four-year degree. The expos are interactive career exploration programs where students learn about career options in a specific industry, receive hands-on experience with equipment used on the job; and speak with professionals regarding education, training and skills required for the jobs.
“It is important to encourage post-secondary education to our youth. Among the important avenues for this education are the excellent apprenticeship and community/technical college programs our area offers. These skilled trades positions offer excellent careers and are essential to the economic health of our community and state.”
-- Jim Spelhaug, Superintendent of the Pleasant Valley Community School District
